The downside to voice recognition software is your overhead investment. Dragon Naturally Speaking is listed at $99.95. However if you fully utilize it, you can get return on your investment in no time.
I must add another drawback to voice recognition software: it can be a bit problem if English is not your first language. I myself still have hard time train the software to recognize my accent.
