Long Tail Niche : Free MySpace Layout for Teenage Girls

The other day I gave a real offline example of long tail niche. Now I present you a real online example of successful long tail niche: Free MySpace Layout for Teenage Girls.

I was quite shocked when I learned that a 17-year-old high school drop-out girl makes $70K a month from AdSense revenue.

Ashley Qualls is a 17-year-old high school dropout, home owner and millionaire. She makes $70,000.00 a month in Google AdSense revenue with her website that has over 2,600 free MySpace layouts for download. She targets teenage females that surf Myspace.

And here’s the shocking fact, she started her website without making money on her mind! So who is Ashley Qualls?

Ashley Qualls comes from a humble and average American family. She had no connections nor any business professionals in her family.

Everything started as a hobby. She started her website without making money on her mind! She began playing with web design when she was 9. She taught herself the basic of web design.

Her famous site, WhateverLife.com, just accidentally happened when she wanted to show off her design work. It started to attract interests from her classmates when she figured out how to customize MySpace spaces.

At first she even couldn’t afford the cost of her web hosting so her web host suggested her to Google Adsense.

She’s been offered more than $1.5 millions for her site but she refused. It’s her passion.

This site started out as my own portfolio of my growing love for web design and now, MySpace layouts, Xanga, HTML tip. I created this from nothing, and I want to see how far I can take it.

True, it took her 8 years to be millionaire from nothing. But hey, she’s millionaire now.

However how often does it happen for someone to be millionaire by accident? It’s rare!

For you, Internet marketer, you must find your niche market and dominate it.

The niche marketers that really make the most money are those that know how to find the perfect balance between competition and search volume. Not only that but they know how to analyze the nature of a niche market to determine how much potential it really has before they enter it.

There is no doubt that niche marketing although often a tricky game, can be wildly profitable when done right.

to be fair, i think she dropped out after she was already a success

We’ll soon see that revenue drop as MySpace starts to get less traffic. But the idea isn’t really farfetched. Probably more than 50% of users of Myspace are girls and a site dedicated to them will make them feel cool. A better niche would be “myspace layouts for emo kids”. Thats like 70% instead of 50 :D

I believe it’s much better if we don’t say “drop out” but “quit school” instead.

That’s another great long tail niche, Oleg :)

Aldian Prakoso reminds us that we should definitely focus on thelong tail niche. He takes a case study of a 17-year-old girl who is pulling down $70,000 a month from Adsense alone, thanks to her hugely popular site filled with free MySpace layouts for teenage girls. I guess she really understands that demographic.

hey, i don’t think is so easy, making a true-revenue-related website takes a little more time to improve it and ad enough content to worth that amount
